After receiving over 695 votes for the 2019 sand sculpting theme, the Parksville Beach Festival Society is pleased to announce the results. The public was asked to vote online and in person at Quality Foods in Nanoose Bay, Parksville and Qualicum Beach for their favorite theme from a choice of three: “Myths & Legends”, “Planes, Trains & Automobiles”, and “Carnival”. The majority (40%) voted for “Myths & Legends” while “Carnival” took second place, capturing 36% of the votes. “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” came in 3rd place at 24%.
“We are excited about this year’s theme”, commented Event Manager, Wendy Sears, who also surveyed past sculptors. “Many of our professional sculptors voted in-favour of Myths & Legends as it will be broad enough to allow for sculpting creativity”, said Sears.

Parksville Beach Festival Society volunteers can now start to design the summer events around this new theme. Society President, Cheryl Dill, reported that the opening weekend, entertainment and a new event will incorporate a “Myths & Legends” theme. “We aim to please the public and very much appreciate their input in helping us chart the course for Parksville’s summertime hallmark event”, commented Dill.

Beachfest’s 2019 Quality Foods Sand Sculpting Competition and Exhibition will take place July 12- August 18, featuring international artists sculpting sand alongside Parksville’s coveted beach in the community park. Over 125,908 visitors attend last year and donations to the event directly supported 23 philanthropic groups in the Parksville-Qualicum region. For more information visit www.parksvillebeachfest.ca
