The 2022 Quality Foods Sand Sculpting Competition in Parksville is off to a roaring start, with strong attendance over a three-day period, July 15-17.  Despite the cool and wet weather, 10,886 visitors witnessed international master sculptors carving sand to the theme of “The Roaring 20s”. Competitors were allotted 30 hours to convert 255 yards of sand into astounding sculptures. Parksville Beach Festival Society awarded a total of $43,350 to sculptors Sunday evening with further prizes to be awarded at the end of the exhibition. The results of the competition are below.

Soloist Results:

1st Place: Dan Belcher (USA) Sculpture Entitled: “Spirit of Aviation

2nd Place: Guy-Olivier Deveau (Quebec); Sculpture Entitled:  “The Algorithm”

3rd Place Tie: 

Peter Vogelaar (Winlaw, BC) Sculpture Entitled: “Belle”

Damon Langlois (Victoria, BC) Sculpture Entitled:  “What a Wonderful World”

5th Place:  Francisco Calvillo (Mexico); Sculpture Entitled: “The Vortex – An Extraordinary Love Story”

1st Place:  Susanne Ruseler (Netherlands) & Sue McGrew (USA) Sculpture Entitled: “Un Bear a Bull”

2nd Place: Wilfred Stijger & Edith van de Wetering (Netherlands) Sculpture Entitled: “Roarrr!”

3rd Place Tie:

Brian Wigelsworth & Matt Long (USA) Sculpture Entitled: “The Cotton Club”

Fred Dobbs (Mayne Island, BC) & Ted Siebert(USA) Sculpture Entitled: “Badda Bing, Badda Boom!”

Sculptures will be on exhibit until Sunday, August 21 at Parksville Community Park. Gates are open from 9:30am-8:30pm daily. Entry by suggested donation of $5.
