The Parksville Beach Festival Society needs your support!Parksville's Sand Sculpting Competition history dates back to 1982, when it hosted its first "B.C. Open". A total of 100 people attended the first event, and it was reviewed as a "great success". From the BC Open to its present day title which welcomed 133,430 people in 2016 "The Quality Foods Sculpting Competition", has evolved into a world class Master Sculptor competition.
The Quality Foods Canadian Open is the only competition in Canada designated as a qualifying event for the World Championship of Sand Sculpting. This designation was awarded based on the dedication to the enhancement of sand sculpting art through quality and professionalism. This will guarantee the First Place winner in the Solo and Double divisions an automatic placement in the World Championship of Sand Sculpting.
The Parksville Beach Festival Society is seeking financial and in-kind support for the 2017 Parksville Beach Festival. Known to locals as "Beach Fest', this 5-week long festival runs July 14 to August 20 and includes the Quality Foods Sand Sculpting Competition & Exhibition, weekend concerts, buskers and an artisan market. It is a family-oriented festival, and the support of the community and sponsors is essential to its success.
The popular Summer Concert Series will return on Friday and Saturday nights from 6:30-8:30 pm in the Community Park and we are looking for cash sponsors to help support some of the fabulous entertainers we are currently lining up. We are also working on a few 'extra' events that we will announce in the weeks ahead, as well as the FREE public sand sculpting demonstrations and lessons during the opening weekend and our annual art show, Art in the Park which takes place July 29th & 30th.
This summer festival will also feature a number of community events organized by other groups, which help to make up the Beach Festival ambiance for which Parksville is so well known. The Lions International Kite Festival held July 22nd & 23rd and Coastal Community Free Sculpting Lessons & Demos will take place July 15th & 16th, the beach will be overrun with old cars at the Van Isle Shiners' Show & Shine Car Show on August 6th, the Quality Foods Festival of Lights fireworks will explode on Saturday, August 19th and on Sunday, August 20th hundreds of kids will hit the beach as part of KidFest and the Quality Foods Children's Sandcastle Competition.
Thank you for your support, we could not do this without you!
